Introduction

Welcome to In Memoriam Sonorum - Sound Landscapes of Renaissance Porto.

Over the course of seven weekends, the Arte Minima Ensemble, specialised in the interpretation of Renaissance music, will carry out a guided tour of the music of two manuscripts from this monastery and today belonging to the collection of the Porto Municipal Public Library.

Musicians will be sight-reading from photographic reproductions of the manuscript, most often reproducing the music contained therein for the first time in the last 400 years. The process of (re)discovering these manuscripts leads musicians to confront a type of musical language very distant from our days, both visually and interpretatively and, sometimes, containing copying errors and the wear and tear of the passage of time. For this reason, throughout the sessions, the musicians provide information so that the public can follow the work and listen actively and engage in the context of the repertoire.

The public is invited to sit among the musicians and talk to them about the works, the composers, the instruments, etc. All questions are welcome.
